Nepal on my mind

We will be leaving for Kathmandu en route to Bhutan in about 2 weeks’ time. There is something special about Kathmandu that I just can’t put my fingers on. It could be the dusty environment, the friendly people, the culture or the dated architecture. A friend of mine said that it was the dhal bhat. Well, I think it is a bit of everything.

Some of the roads in the old quarters of Kathmandu were built according to the Hindu worship practices. These roads were aligned to face east-west directions, a no, no in good modern civil designs. These roads and the old architecture settings couple with location of Nepal at higher latitudes provides a photographers’ delight of long shadows with back or side lighting.

If you have a chance to visit Kathmandu do wake up early and catch the morning sun along the streets of Thamel Bazaar. You will be pleasantly surprised.
