PhotoMalaysia Photography Experience

Two days in a Classroom & 5 Days of Practical Shooting in Cambodia

PhotoMalaysia is launching a unique learning program aimed at newbies and not-so-newbies, who want to improve their digital photography skills.

The PhotoMalaysia Photography Experience, or PMPE for short, will initially be a Two Stages, 7 days event, led by Maxby and Digitalartist. Additional specialist modules, now under development will later be added. Part of the proceeds from these events will be donated to PM’s server costs fund. A PhotoMalaysia Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to all participants..

Stage 1

Stage 1 will be 2 days of intensive lectures, demos, discussions, photo-critiques & questions & answers in a classroom setting, using hundreds of sample images as illustrations. The tips, instructions & skills to be downloaded are normally picked up over a lifetime of learning and experience. The two days program is designed as a fast track way to get you up to speed, and be effectively running, in the science, art, craft, and subtle nuances of Digital Photography.

We will guide you on How to Choose Cameras, Lenses & Accessories, How to Care for your equipment including Sensor cleaning, How to Use, Understand & Master your Camera controls, including skills like differential & hyper-focusing, How to See, Compose, Frame & Shoot Compelling pictures, How to Post Process digital pictures with Photoshop, Conversions to B&W, HDR or High Dynamic Range techniques, How to Calibrate your monitor, and How to Sort, Store, Catalog, Organize, attach Keywords and quickly process your digital images in a non destructive manner, using a metadata image processor like Adobe Lightroom. The essential learning points in main genres of photography will be taught.

The two days program will cover an intensive and Complete Digital Workflow, arranged to equip attendees with the essential skills needed to see, compose, shoot and process successful digital images. It is designed to give you a kick start in Digital Photography, to equip you with the foundations upon which you can further develop your photography skills. You can bring along your own pictures for Critique, and to be used in Post Processing tutorials & demonstrations. The first day is devoted to help you understand, use and master your camera. Half of the second day will be for teaching you a practical & immediately usable post processing workflow while the second half is to highlight the essentials of all the major genres of Photography.

Stage 2

Stage 2 will be a 5 days Photo Safari in Seam Reap, Cambodia, programmed to reinforce the learning points in Stage 1.

There will be Guided Shooting Walkabouts, Q&A, Discussions & Critique sessions, and Practical Demos of Composition using Angkor Wat and people of Cambodia as subjects and backdrop.
There will be Tips on Street, Village & Market Shooting, Demos of Low Light Photography, how to See and Use Light, Shadows, Patterns & Textures in B&W and colour, how to Shoot Sunrises, reflections, and in fact how to see and make compelling pictures. The 5 days Photo Safari is a practical, on site and hands on learning program, reinforcing the lectures of Stage 1, combining photography with the pleasures of exploring mysterious Seam Reap and sampling its culinary and other delights.

This is a learning photography tour, designed by experienced photographers for photographers. There will be only 20 persons in each classroom & photo trip to ensure that you get personal attention.

The first Stage 2 PMPE will be from 7-12 April. Preference for places in Stage 2 will be given to those who have attended Stage 1. Only places not taken up will be offered to others not wishing to join in Stage 1.

Your take away from the PhotoMalaysia Photography Experience will be not only hundreds of beautiful pictures from Cambodia, but also at least 50 practical tips on how to shoot compelling pictures. We are planning an exhibition & coffee table book for the best pictures..
