In the Temple of God, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

The Jade Emperor Temple was built in the early 1900s by Cantonese migrants. It was dedicated to the Jade Emperor, the supreme deity in the Taoist pantheon.

The sculpture of the Jade Emperor is in the centre of the main hall. At his sides are Quan Am, Guanyin and the Supreme Deity of the North. There are various smaller shrines dedicated to other deities in the Taoist pantheon and a pair of 4m high sculptures of Quan Thanh Long on the right and  Quan Phuc Ho on the left. Both the generals are extremely well sculpted and made from paper-mâché.

It is located at 73D Mai Thi Luu, Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.

We had the opportunity to visit this temple during a prayer ceremony in 2010.

A meeting of two faiths

A wish and a fulfilment

Using smoke as a medium of communication

An inner moment

Sending a smoke mail to God

Praying for divine intervention
